A Dual-Adaptive Approach Based on Discrete Cosine Transform for Removal of ECG Baseline Wander

Removal of baseline wander (BW) is an important preprocessing step before manually or automatically interpreting electrocardiogram (ECG) records. It a challenging issue to fully remove BW while preserving original clinical information because usually mingled with low-frequency ECG components. A dual-adaptive approach based on discrete cosine transform (DCT) presented in this study. Firstly, the cardiac fundamental frequency (CFF) ECGs accurately calculated through DCT domain analysis. Secondly, coefficients ECGs, whose frequencies are below CFF, used construct amplitude vector which optimal cut-point between and distinctly reflected. Finally, new filtering technique exploited suppress its cutoff adjusted cut-point. The proposed method applied both real records simulated results compared those three previous methods published literature. experimental show that substantial improvements performance can be achieved when adopting approach.
